My antlers-
« on: November 25, 2007, 08:14:36 PM »

I have 2 sets of raw antlers, I had them sawed off at the meat locker. I have a couple of those walmart kits to mount them on. QUESTION: How do you get all of the fur off of the cap? is there a special trick? Also, is there anything special i need to do to the actual antlers?

I just cut the hide off with a sharp knife...Around the base of the antlers i  use a scraping motion with the knife digging in hard.
I always coat the antlers (after cleaning the blood off) with a couple of light coats of Tru Oil stock finish it weatherproofs them and gives them a nice sheen or glow.
